New York Heartwoods was founded in 2011 out of our love of forests, passion for quality craftsmanship, and desire to create environmental and economic solutions for our community.
Production + Materials
Logs from urban tree removals are often landfilled, chipped or cut into firewood. If milled, the US could produce an additional 3 billion board feet of lumber annually while storing carbon and reducing waste, greenhouse gas emissions, and the need for unsustainable logging practices.
We see business as a force that can create solutions for our environment and communities. Our goal is to generate as little waste as possible. Though we are not FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, as the certification has yet to apply to trees from urban forests, our sourcing surpasses the sustainability guidelines of any wood certifying entity.
